Equine Experiential Psychotherapy for Individuals

Welcome to Mindwise, Inc
For individuals struggling with anxiety, relationship dissatisfaction, or recurring interpersonal challenges, equine experiential psychotherapy offers a unique, embodied path to insight and change. In partnership with Dr. Mazer and a horse, clients engage in ground-based activities that bring unconscious patterns to the surface—how they relate, avoid, perform, or protect. The horse responds authentically to the client’s emotional state, providing immediate, nonverbal feedback. With Dr. Mazer’s guidance, clients begin to notice how their nervous system, boundaries, and relational habits show up in real time—creating space for new awareness, emotional regulation, and healthier ways of connecting. No prior horse experience is necessary and there is no riding.
How Equine Experiential Psychotherapy Helps Couples Break Through Stuck Patterns
Working with horses allows couples to move beyond talk and into action—where relational patterns surface naturally and quickly. During structured, non-mounted activities with the horse, partners are asked to collaborate, problem-solve, and stay emotionally attuned, often triggering the same roles, defenses, and dynamics that show up at home.

As these patterns unfold in real time, Dr. Mazer actively observes and guides the process—helping each partner notice what role they tend to take (pursuer, avoider, fixer, controller, etc.), what emotional masks they wear (anger instead of hurt, detachment instead of fear), and how defenses like blame, withdrawal, or perfectionism show up under pressure. The horse, sensitive to human emotion and congruence, responds immediately to shifts in energy and connection, offering honest feedback without judgment.

This real-time enactment makes it possible for couples to see and feel their cycles rather than just talk about them. With Dr. Mazer’s support, couples begin to identify core feelings beneath the reactivity, expand emotional insight, and practice new ways of engaging—right there in the moment. It’s experiential, embodied, and often transformative.

Sessions are $375 for individuals and $550 for couples
